These Nendran Bananas come from Kerala, where they are a staple fruit. They have a pale yellow colour with silky flesh and, compared to other varieties, they have a distinctive colour and texture owing to the cultivation adopted for this variety.
Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Well-ripened Nendran variety bananas will have black spots. Nendran bananas are famous for making chips and crisps. Steam-cook the ripened banana and have it with spicy beaten rice or poha. Enjoy slices of the uncooked banana caramelised on a shallow frying pan with salted butter and a good sprinkling of sugar and powdered cinnamon.
